Collection: Mismanaged Coalition
This is my most personal collection, It is a collection that was inspired by the abusive relationship I was in. I knew when I got out of that relationship in August of 2018 that I wanted to do an art collection about it. I had this vision and I started doodling ideas. However, it was still too fresh. I hadn’t been able to process what had happened to me. I hadn’t had enough therapy at that point. And as I shared my story with people, the amount of women who had similar experiences was astounding.
So I knew I needed to create this collection because it not only represents me and what I experienced but also represents other women who had the same experiences. I am creating this collection with the hopes of starting a conversation about the different types of abuse, emotional, verbal, and physical abuse. As well as gaslighting.
What makes this collection unique for me artistically is that I wanted it to get a little sculptural. I come from a background of quilting and sewing growing up, and I wanted to tie some of that into this collection. There is raw canvas that is painted, sculpted, and stitched together, and then stitched onto the canvas. Each painting is from my perspective, whether depicting a situation I was in or just an emotion I was feeling. With each painting, there is also a little poem to help depict the scene.
